St Louis Photographer | Sara Tegman Photography | 10 on 10

10 on 10 is a project where 10 photographers will post 10 images on the 10th of every month. We will be posting and linking to each other so you can click through our tour every month on the 10th. This is an incredibly talented group of ladies and I am very humbled and grateful to be in such company. Please join me.

Over the last week I came home for the July 4th holiday. My family is small and close knit. My sister and brother and I are all very close in age and are great friends. Our children are also close in age. They love to be together. My brother loves building memories and camping is one of his favorite activities. There is a campsite in the Kettle Moraine State Forest he loves to go to. The Kettle Moraine is made up of about 30,000 acres across Wisconsin. It is a lone campsite and the hike to get to the site is about 3/4 of a mile into the forest. Idyllic and dreamy doesn’t even describe our night in the woods. I am not a camper. I love my starbucks and running hot water, but something about the stillness, campfire and closeness of being with my family will forever become a warm, loving memory.

Now please click through to my dear friend, Kristy Lane | K. Lane Photography | Allen Child Photographer and see what brilliant images she captured for 10 on 10.

St Louis Photographer | Sara Tegman Photography | Emotion

Emotion is such a great theme for this week. It is such an essential part of what we do. I was at a shoot this evening. And it is always nerve-wracking to meet a family you have never met before. It struck me so odd that I am in this scenario often. But I love it and thrive on it. It is my job to put them at ease, from the moment I get an email, a phone call, or a text message it my sole purpose to help make the process less stressful and more fun. If I succeed in this, my outcome when I do get to shoot with my families is quite wonderful. We all strive for the emotion in our images, whether you are the one in the image or you are the one looking at the image. I want to evoke emotion. Some of the hardest images to get any emotion out of are not of my clients……they are of my own children. But when I do, true bliss.

Now, please turn your attention to Rebecca | Fresh From God Photography | Southern CA and see what her take on emotion is this week!

St Louis Photographer | Sara Tegman | Whimsical

Our theme this week is Whimsical. What is whimsical? Playfully quaint, acting in an appealing or amusing way. My daughter just got new running shoes. She was complaining that her running shoes were too small. Too small? I just bought them in January, she has worn them less than 6 months! She put them on for me and sure enough, the toes were so crammed into the end. I felt guilty and ashamed for even doubting her. So off to buy some new tennis shoes. There is only a few places here in town even worth spending time finding new kids tennis shoes. I drove there after dinner one day this week. The girls had been in camp all day, they were tired, uncooperative and whiny. I just wanted to get the search over with. We walked into the store. It was the very first pair she tried on. How can this be? I had been in the store less than 5 minutes. I think we were living in a dream world. This never happens. But this time, we paid the bill and jumped in the car. I often have to think about my theme way in advance to get the right shot. This week, it was about my daughter and her new pair of running shoes. I just wanted an image of her running and I combined my thoughts with a photography style I love called panning. Panning is shot at a super low shutter speed to create the blur or movement shown in the background while the subject is in focus. It is a very difficult thing to master. I didn’t quite “get it”. But the idea of her lightening fast in her new tennis shoes? Priceless.

Please join me in visiting all 19 photographers and their 52 week projects. Rebecca Mitchell of Fresh From God Photography | Southern, California will no doubt have an amazing take on whimsical this week. Check it out!
